Illinois Tech’s Wireless Upgrade to Begin Next Week

The Office of Technology Services has heard your concerns about the university’s wireless coverage and, as a result, the wireless network on all Illinois Tech campuses will be upgraded to meet your academic and research needs. The new infrastructure will provide enhanced wireless connectivity at 10Gbps, while the backbone infrastructure has been upgraded to 20Gbps.

To ensure you are ready to connect to the new wireless network, please make sure your wireless devices have the latest drivers installed to prevent degraded performance. If you need assistance with this process, please contact the Office of Technology Services’ (OTS) Support Desk for assistance.

The wireless upgrade in each building will occur in three phases: (1) adding cabling; (2) upgrading switches to handle new access points; and (3) replacing each access point. During Phase Three, you may experience temporary, wireless-connectivity interruptions and you may need to re-authenticate to join the Illinois Tech network. Phase Three will happen in waves, building-by-building.
