Important Commencement Day Instructions for Graduating Students

Commencement is almost here! Here are some final important instructions that you should follow to make your Commencement day run smoothly.

As always, please check the Commencement site for any additional information: https://www.iit.edu/commencement

We look forward to celebrating with you!

Tickets

Graduating students do not need a ticket for Commencement. However, all guests (two years of age or older) will need a ticket to enter the arena. All guests will be subject to the venue’s security screening policies, including walking through metal detectors and removal of personal items from pockets. Please remind your guests that the Credit Union 1 Arena has a strict bag policy and large bags (14” x 14” x 6”) are not allowed, nor is there an area to leave large belongings. Diaper bags, strollers, water bottles, and outside food and beverage are also prohibited. For additional information about venue restrictions, please visit the venue website.

All graduating students, whether they requested extra guest tickets or not, should have claimed their tickets by logging into the Illinois Tech Portal Graduate Home Page and clicking on the “TICKETING/View” button. Students have the option to digitally share or print their tickets for guests, but please remember that tickets can be scanned only once (For example, if a student shares one ticket with multiple guests, only the first person to use the ticket will be admitted.)

Student Check-In

Upon arrival, graduating students should report to the parking garage just east of Credit Union 1 Arena for check-in. All graduating students must arrive dressed in their regalia as outlined below:

College Ceremony One (ID, Lewis, Computing)

Other Reminders

  • Please bring your HawkCard, driver’s license, or passport to check in to receive your name card lanyard
  • Be sure to always hold on to your name card lanyard, as you will give that card to the name reader as you cross the stage
  • There will be no bathroom or chairs available at student check-in
  • Please do not bring any personal belongings (purse/backpack) with you as they cannot be brought to the stage with you and there will be no place to store them during the ceremony
  • Students are not allowed in the arena pre-ceremony, nor are families allowed in the parking garage check-in area pre-ceremony
  • You MUST go back to your seat after crossing the stage and you will leave the arena the same way you entered

Dress Code

All graduating students are required to wear a cap, gown, and tassel in order to participate in Commencement. You must bring your regalia with you to the ceremony; there will not be any regalia available on the day of the event. For more information about the dress code, please visit the following link. You will be processing down a steep ramp to enter the building, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
