Undergraduate architecture student Jingyu Lee has been awarded a $10,000 Thornton Tomasetti Foundation National Scholarship. One of three winners in 2013, the scholarship review committee commended Lee “for his exceptional academic success and demonstrated interest in the integration of engineering and architecture” as pursued through his rigorous work as a dual major in architecture and civil and environmental engineering.

Upon graduation from IIT, Lee will hold degrees in civil engineering, architectural engineering and architecture.  He is a founding member of the Structural Engineers Association student chapter and was president for the first six months.  Lee was an intern with Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, where he supported the team designing the CTF Tianjin Tower in Tianjin China.

The Thornton Tomasetti Foundation funds fellowships, scholarships and internships for undergraduate students planning to pursue graduate studies in building engineering, design, or technology. Candidates were nominated by a university dean or department chair, and graded on factors such as career goals,academic accomplishments, and demonstrated interest in the integration of structural engineering and architecture. Recipients must intend to make an impact on the structural design of buildings, and practice structural engineering in the building field upon completion of their degree requirements.
