Judges and Moderators Needed for Chicago High School Ethics Bowl Regional Competition

The Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions (CSEP) invites faculty, staff, and interested students to participate as judges during the Chicago High School Ethics Bowl Competition on Saturday, January 26 from 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m. at Illinois Tech’s Mies Campus. We have 18 teams from nine different Chicago-area schools competing this year, our biggest high school bowl yet!

Illinois Tech started the Ethics Bowl more than 25 years ago at the university level and for the past five years has worked to bring this competition to Chicago-area high school students. This year we are working in partnership with the Winning Words program at the University of Chicago to sponsor this competition. The teams will participate in three rounds of debate, and the top two teams will then face off in a final round.

The Ethics Bowl competition challenges students to work as a group to analyze and discuss a series of ethics cases concerning world problems such as issues surrounding emerging technologies, the environment, disease prevention, crime, and issues related to the current economy and job creation.

If you have questions or are interested in volunteering to be a judge in this competition, email Kelly Laas at laas@iit.edu.
