We have been keeping a close eye on the Chicago Department of Transporation’s work building the landscaped pedestrian plaza at the northeast corner of 35th and State Streets. Last week we were awaiting changes to the pedestrian access patterns as work shifted to focus on the northeast and southeast corners of the intersection. The rainy weather altered the work schedule and we will see some of those changes happening this week as weather permits. The plan for this week is outlined below:
- Monday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 8—Sidewalk concrete work will be done along the new curb line of 35th street and CDOT will be performing light pole foundations.
- Thursday, May 9 through Friday, May 10—Once the new sidewalk on 35th Street is complete to the CTA entrance, pedestrian traffic will be shifted along 35th Street to the new sidewalk and work will begin to start removing the sidewalk area next to the parking lot as well as the southeast and northeast corners of State and 35th. This will require closing the sidewalk on the east side of State Street. Pedestrians will be directed to use the existing mid-block cross walks to the west side of State Street. See the pedestrian plan (below) for a visual. If weather permits, the southeast corner sidewalk will be poured.
- During the week of May 13—CDOT will be working on traffic signals.
As always, construction can be delayed by weather. Please watch Illinois Tech Today updates for any significant changes.
