Lewis College of Human Sciences Professor Patrick Ireland Selected as DAAD Research Ambassador

Patrick Ireland, professor of political science in the Department of Social Sciences, has been named a research ambassador by the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst–DAAD) for the 2017–18 academic year. The program honors individuals who have conducted long-term research projects in Germany at the doctoral level or above and are interested in establishing new research collaborations in the country.

To kick off this year’s program, each of the 21 new research ambassadors participated in a two-day seminar at DAAD’s office in New York City focused on developments in German higher education and research, including funding opportunities for North American scientists and academics interested in conducting research in Germany or initiating collaborative projects with German colleagues.

Over the course of the academic year, Ireland and his fellow research ambassadors will serve as liaisons for DAAD in the United States and Canada to promote research and collaboration opportunities in Germany among colleagues, peers, and students in their professional community, university or organization, and discipline.
