ENGR 498-45/598-45: Sustainable Construction and Development (in Puerto Rico) 3CrHr explores tools and concepts associated with sustainable construction and how the adoption of constructive certification systems according to local needs, realities, and expectations from an urban perspective, can contribute in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) objectives articulated by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Students will have the opportunity to explore constructive certification systems (i.e. LEED), get exposed to the effects of the devastating event that Puerto Rico suffered with category 5 hurricanes Irma and María in September 2017, work on a special field project, and learn how local communities in Puerto Rico are dealing (from the social, academic, political, commercial, and industrial sectors) with the impact of what happened. Requirements: Undergraduate (juniors and seniors) and graduate (Masters) students in engineering, architecture, or related fields with interest in sustainability and resilience in coastal and urban growth areas and a basic proficiency in Spanish. Apply now,
