Man on the Bench Leaving Campus Temporarily for Restoration

The “Man on the Bench” sculpture in Morton Park will be leaving campus the first week of April to be restored. The sculpture will be back in time for commencement in May.

The “Man on the Bench” by George Segal, cast in bronze and sealed with white acrylic resin, was commissioned in 1986 to commemorate the centennial of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s birth.  The work was made possible by a grant from B.F.Ferguson Memorial Fund and additional funding from Daniel J. Terra, founder of Terra Museum of American Art and Victor J. Axelrod, president of Banner Construction Company.
