Men’s Tennis Takes Home 2021 NACC Tournament Title with 5-2 Win Over Concordia (Wis.)

KOHLER, WIS.—The Illinois Institute of Technology men’s tennis team secured the 2021 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Men’s Tennis Tournament Title with a 5-2 victory over Concordia (Wis.) at the Sports Core in Kohler, Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon. The Scarlet Hawks have secured an automatic bid into the 2021 NCAA Division III Men’s Tennis Championship. The full tournament field will be announced at www.ncaa.com on Monday, May 10.

The Scarlet Hawks stay unbeaten at 7-0 while Concordia (Wis.) ends their season with an 8-7 record. Illinois Tech now has two NACC Men’s Tennis Tournament Titles under their belt as they also accomplished the feat in 2018-19.

Illinois Tech took a 2-1 lead after doubles, thanks to an 8-6 victory for Brody Croonquist/Jordan Lauer over Tim Peters/Cole Werning in the No. 2 spot, and an 8-5 win for Adam Laitinen/Roman Shishlov over Joshua Klement/Thomas Melius in the No. 3 position.

The bottom half of the Scarlet Hawks’ singles lineup prevailed as they picked up wins in the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots. Nabil Fawaz took down Cole Werning 6-4, 6-1 in No. 4 singles while Jordan Lauer defeated Joshua Klement 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 5 spot. Adam Laitinen came through with a 6-1, 6-0 thrashing of Thomas Melius in No. 6 singles.
