MMAE doctoral candidate Mengtao Xie was awarded Best in Show in the student poster contest at the Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) 2011 Annual Meeting & Exhibition in San Diego, California last week.  Xie’s entry, “Effect of Cr on the Solidification Microstructure of Polycrystaline Ni-Al-Nb Eutectic Ni-Base Superalloys,” took first prize in the Structural Materials division.

Best in Show awards judges considered aesthetics, technical content and the oral presentations by the students for entries in six divisions.  2010 TMS President George T. “Rusty” Gray III and 2011 TMS President Garry Warren served as judges and awarded the Best in Show ribbons to Xie and undergraduate Best in Show winner Roberto Manzano of the University of Puerto Rico.
