National Institute of Standards and Technology – Summer Undergraduate Fellowship Applications Now Open

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking enthusiastic undergraduate students to apply to the agency’s premier Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program. The SURF Program will be administered virtually with program dates of May 23, 2022 to August 5, 2022. Note: Participants will not travel to the NIST laboratories to conduct research in the 2022 SURF Program. Therefore, the fellowship does not include support for travel or lodging. Applications are due February 15, 2022.  Note that students must submit their final proposal to the  Office of Sponsored Research and Programs no later than February 8 for review and submission.  Please contact OSRP if you should need any assistance.

Eligibility

•A United States (U.S.) citizen or U.S. permanent resident as of the application deadline

•Enrolled full-time at a U.S. accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university during the time of application

•Currently, classified as a college freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior

•Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher on a 4.00 scale. GPA is a participation requirement and will be verified at the time the appointment is accepted.

•Majoring in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) field with interest in measurement science, standards, and technology research.

•Plan to pursue a career or graduate degree in STEM.
