Update: Heidarinejad’s Research on Engineered Wood Featured in the Journal Science

Note: An earlier version of this announcement should have listed Science as the journal featuring Assistant Professor Mohammad Heidarinejad’s report.

Assistant Professor of Architectural Engineering Mohammad Heidarinejad is a member of the team that is behind the development of a strong wood-like material that can cool passively and potentially provide homeowners in hot and dry climates with energy savings of 20–60 percent. The team’s report, “A Radiative Cooling Structural Material,” is included in the May 24, 2019, edition of the journal Science.

Also this year, Heidarinejad mentored a group of Illinois Tech students in Armour College of Engineering that worked to improve the heating efficiency of the university’s historic Alumni Memorial Hall, which utilizes a steam radiator heating system.
