NECA Chapter and IPRO Entering Electrical Contracting and Innovation Challenge

The ELECTRI 2022 Electrical Contracting Innovation Challenge is taking place this year with students from IPRO-497-616 participating and students from Illinois Tech’s NECA student chapter. There are currently 22 students on the team working under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Tomal and Teacher Assistant Gladys Toledo-Rodriguez. The proposals will be submitted April 29 and presented via video on June 1.

The goal this year is to redesign the Oglethorpe University, Emerson Student Center so that teams can be awarded a bid later for construction. The team is expected to write a construction proposal for the electrical systems of the building. To prepare for creating the bid, the team has attended four meetings regarding the use of Accubid to estimate the cost of materials needed to assign a cost to the project. The team was also visited by Michael Block from Block Engineering and Michael Schwartz from Allied Universal Technology to provide consultation on how to prepare a proposal with respect to security systems and general electrical. The team is expected to present the bid in Austin, Texas on October 15. Meetings are held every Thursday at 6:30 to 9:00 pm on Blackboard.

The original Emerson Student Center was built in 1968 and demolished in 2012. The new Oglethorpe student center was completed in 2013. The new renovations have been constructed to improve social life and houses its campus life offices and Atlanta Laboratory for Learning.
