Process Improvements Instituted in Office of Human Resources

The IIT Office of Human Resources has instituted a number of process improvements.

Employment verifications

Refinancing your mortgage? Renting an apartment? Buying a car?

IIT has partnered with Equifax Workforce Solutions using The Work Number® to provide automated employment and income verifications.

The Work Number is a fast and secure way to provide proof of your employment or income—a necessary step in many of today’s life events involving credit, financing, or securing of benefits or services. The Work Number simplifies the verification process and accelerates credit decisions through an online system available to verifiers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More than 200,000 credentialed verifiers rely on The Work Number for rapid access to information critical to their decision process, and over 2,900 employers nationwide have entrusted The Work Number to provide this important service on behalf of their employees. Employees can also access the system to pull and print their own Employee Data Reports (EDR). Effective Monday, August 10, 2015, work verifications will be processed through the work number. Click here for instructions on how the system works and how to access your own reports.

Work eligibility – FORM I-9

In addition to The Work Number, Illinois Tech has partnered with Equifax for the electronic completion of the Form I-9. This is the form that is required of all employees to prove eligibility to work in the United States. New employees will complete their portion of the form online and once they arrive on campus, a completer can search for the employee in the system and complete the I-9 electronically after verifying the documents. The system allows a search for incomplete and missing I-9s, provides accuracy in document verification, and most importantly, eliminates the paper I-9 form. Effective Monday, August 10, 2015, we will no longer use the paper I-9 form. There will be an announcement for training on the new system next week for those who regularly complete I-9s for their departments.

Tuition remission

Our current process for tuition remission requires the completion of an application by the student, manual routing to approvers and the manual creation of an Excel spreadsheet containing student information. Effective Monday, August 3, 2015, employees can apply for tuition remission through the MyIIT portal. Paper forms will no longer be accepted. Students will access the application via a link on the HR portal, complete the application and when the “submit” button is selected, the form is automatically routed to the necessary parties for verification, approval and posting. This automated process will eliminate the use of a paper form, except in instances when the supervisor’s name is missing from Banner. In those instances, the employee can print the form and submit.
