Professional Development Opportunities from Community Standards

The Office of Community Standards is proud to provide workshops for you and your team for the 2021-2022 academic year. The Office of Community Standards provides workshops for faculty and staff to better support students in and out of the classroom. Please review the presentations available below.

Responding to Students in Distress
At universities across the country, undergraduate and graduate students are entering the campuses with different issues that may impact their student success. This workshop will provide you with information about how to respond to students who are in distress or exhibiting distressing/disrupting behavior. The workshop will review strategies to help you respond to a student in distress and will outline appropriate response protocols and provide you with an understanding of how to respond personally and when to respond to a student in distress or crisis (including how and when to refer the student to another campus resource).

Student Support: Assisting Students in Extenuating Circumstances
This webinar will provide information on how faculty and staff could support students seeking support during extenuating circumstances. This webinar will focus on the role that Student Affairs plays as advocates for students and how students can ask for accommodations from the Center for Disability Resources.

Managing Classroom Behavior
This presentation will address Illinois Tech’s student conduct process and how to manage disrupting behavior in the classroom. This presentation will explain the student conduct process, what to expect during the student conduct process, and how to manage classroom disruptions.

Brave On Campus
