Professional Development Opportunity from the Office of Community Standards

The Office of Community Standards and Student Affairs is pleased to announce a professional development opportunity for faculty and staff that work closely with Illinois Tech students. These workshops will assist faculty and staff on how to better support students.

Responding to Students In Distress

This workshop will provide information about how to respond to students who are in distress or exhibiting disrupting behaviors.  The workshop will review strategies to help respond to a student in distress and will outline university and Student Affairs response protocols to streamline access for a student to professional services and provide an understanding of how to respond to a student in distress or crisis.

Understanding Our College Students and Their Families

This workshop was developed to help faculty and staff members better understand the current generation of college students and their families. In this presentation we will discuss theories relating to our college students, understanding first-generation college students, best practices, and how to work with family members of our students.

If you are interested in having this training session for you or your staff, please complete this form and Raul Fernandez, assistant director of community standards, will reach out to to schedule a time.

If there is a topic that you are interested in that relates to supporting students, we will work with you on developing the content for it. If you have any questions, please reach out to Raul Fernandez at rfernandez1@iit.edu.
