Reminder: MAP Grant Expanded to Non-FAFSA Filers

The Office of Financial Aid would like to remind Illinois residents who are undocumented or have a gender identity that did not allow them to successfully complete the FAFSA are now eligible to apply for an alternate MAP Grant for the 2020-2021 academic year.

The MAP Grant is Illinois’ state grant, which is offered to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. Last year, the state of Illinois passed the RISE Act. This legislation expanded MAP Grants to students who are undocumented and transgender students who were unable to successfully submit a FAFSA because of selective service registration complications.

If you think you are covered by this expanded eligibility, please visit the Illinois Student Assistance Commission’s website for more information and to complete their Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid.

Remember, MAP Grant funds are awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis, so eligible students should submit this application as soon as possible.

Students are also welcome to contact Illinois Tech’s Office of Financial Aid with any questions.
