Revised Government Shutdown Update from OSRP

This is updated information to the post published on January 24. Please note edited info in red:

As you aware, the government is on a “shutdown.” As such, many government agencies are affected that require a furlough that limits or stops activities at government agencies. The following agencies are open: the United States Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Energy, the National Institutes of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The Office of Sponsored Research and Programs has been informed that the National Science Foundation (NSF) will continue to accept proposals in accordance with published deadlines. You can find additional about the government shutdown for NSF proposers and grantees at the agency’s website.

Grants.gov system will remain in an “Operational Status.” Cayuse will also continue to be operational.

Faculty should be prepared to submit all proposals and reports according to published deadlines. The Office of Sponsored Research and Programs has not received any information regarding the extension dates of proposal deadlines.

Some agencies are not issuing award notices. If you are expecting a new award or the next phase of incremental funding, an advanced expenditure authorization form may be completed but is at the risk of the PI. If the funding is not provided by the sponsor, the PI will be responsible for all expenditures. All pre-spending requests approved by the appropriate department chair. The Office of Sponsored Research and Programs may require additional information as part of their review before approving any advanced expenditure authorization forms.

We will continue to provide you with information as soon as we are able. Please do not hesitate to contact OSRP or at 312.567.3035 if you should have any questions.
