Alert from Chicago Police Department

The Chicago Police Department has issued an alert for the 002nd District (Wentworth) about a recent string of robberies in that area. While these incidents occurred off campus, these are areas where our students, faculty, and staff may live or travel.

About the Crimes: 

This alert gives notice to citizens in the 002nd District (Wentworth) of robbery-related incidents that have occurred during the month of September. In these incidents, three to four offenders have surrounded victims on the sidewalk and have demanded or forcibly removed property. Offenders then fled the area on foot. Incident times and geographical locations are listed below:

  • 3300 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on September 9, 2016 at approximately 11:05 a.m.
  • 3300 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on September 13, 2016 between the hours of 3:50 and 4:10 p.m.
  • 3300 block of South Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on September 13, 2016 at approximately 12:50 p.m.
  • 3300 block of South Calumet Avenue on September 16, 2016 between the hours of 7 and 7:30 p.m.

About the Offenders:

  • Three to four African American males, 14-25 years old, 5’6″ to 5’11”, 90-190 lbs.

What you can do: 

  • Always be aware of your surroundings
  • Report suspicious activity immediately
  • If you are confronted by an assailant remain calm
  • Remember any unique physical characteristics (scar, limp, acne, teeth, etc . . . )
  • Never pursue a fleeing assailant, provide the information to the police
  • If approached by a witness to the incident, request contact information
  • Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible
