S.S. Iyengar Speaks on Network Security Analysis for Cloud Computing – March 10

The eminent computer scientist S.S. Iyengar will speak on “Network Security Analysis for Oblivious Routing Algorithms in Cloud Computing” on Thursday, March 10 from 12:45-1:45 p.m. in Stuart Building, Room 111. He appears as part of the Department of Computer Science’s Distinguished Lecture Series.

Iyengar is the Ryder Distinguished Professor and director of the School of Computing and Information Technology at Florida International University. He is renowned for important fundamental research and contributions in algorithms and data structures for applications in parallel computing, image-processing, sensor fusion and robotics.

With fast advances in cloud computing have come more enterprise services for client use, which has created new security challenges. Iyengar proposes a novel Oblivious Routing-based Security Scheme (ORSS) that effectively addresses the security issues caused by the Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) security attacks related to the data communication in cloud systems.

In his talk, Iyengar will cover a detailed theoretical model and analysis including an experimental work in the form of simulation using two well-known oblivious routing algorithms.

Iyengar is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Association for Computer Machinery, American Association for the Advancement of Science, National Academy of Inventors, and Society for Design and Process Science, and a member of the European Academy of Sciences. His publications include 15 authored/edited books and more than 500 research papers. He has been the editor of several IEEE journals and is the founding editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks.
