Showcase Your Major to IIT Boeing Scholars

The IIT Boeing Scholars Academy will introduce this year’s 111 IIT Boeing Scholars* to Illinois Tech’s many departments and majors from 2-5 pm on Wednesday, July 2, 2014.

Last year, more than 100 high-achieving high school juniors and seniors experienced a personal look at what college life is like at Illinois Tech by visiting 14 different departments and colleges on IIT’s Main Campus, in addition to Shimer College. The admitted high school students spend the month of July on IIT’s campus participating in various activities, including guidance in college preparation and exploration.

The IIT Boeing Scholars Academy is inviting IIT faculty to be part of this summer’s college exploration event by showcasing their major/department and sharing their valuable expertise.

Each academic department is invited to sign up for one, two, or all three 40 minute time slots, during which time they are welcome to discuss majors, fields of study, industries, research, undergraduate opportunities in addition to an interactive hands-on activity. For example, last summer, a chemistry professor facilitated a session with the scholars on how to make fireworks, allowing students to get an idea of chemistry concepts through use of a hands-on activity and presentation. Each Scholar will have the opportunity to visit three departments of their choice during the afternoon sessions. This is a valuable recruitment opportunity, since the Scholars are outstanding students individually and, together, attend 55 different Chicago-area high schools.

Each session will be 40 minutes in length. Faculty have a choice of the following times that best fit with their schedule:

Session 1: 2- 2:40 PM
Session 2: 3- 3:40 PM
Session 3: 4- 4:40 PM

If interested in participating on July 2, email Anne Pugh at apugh2@iit.edu by Tuesday, June 24.
