Sigma Xi/IIT Awards for Excellence in Research

The Sigma Xi/IIT Awards for Excellence in Research recognize the exemplary accomplishments in research, scholarship, and creative activity by faculty members and graduate students.
  • Assistant Professor Amandeep Sandhu, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, is the winner of the Junior Faculty Award for addressing issues that affect crops, food product development and optimization, and pharmacokinetic evaluation of dietary phytochemicals consumed by humans. Her work provides data for national databases used by consumers and researchers all over the world, and more specifically, helps farmers and processors understand the chemical nature of their fruits, contributing to breeding strategies and health claims.
  • Professor Jovan Brankov, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is the winner of the Senior Faculty Award. He is recognized worldwide as an innovative researcher and a leading expert in medical imaging, X-ray phase-contrast imaging, and image analysis using machine learning.
  • Xin Huang, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, is the winner of the Student Award for his research in ultrasonic imaging and communication systems, signal processing, image and video transmission, which has appeared in many IEEE journal and conference proceedings articles.
