Stuart School of Business Friday Research Presentations on March 5

The Stuart School of Business Friday Research Presentations series includes two sessions on Friday, March 5. All Illinois Tech faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend.

10–11 a.m.: Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Economic Development in China
• Associate Professor of Environmental Management Nasrin R. Khalili
• Weiquan Cheng, Stuart Management Science Ph.D. student

This study examines corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategies and their anticipated impacts on both companies’ performance and climate change mitigation in mainland China. It performs analysis on the effectiveness of the policies/efforts undertaken by Chinese publicly-traded companies to carry on CSR projects, and specifically focuses on determining if CSR projects could help to enhance companies’ profitability while promoting sustainable development in China. Our modeling results indicate that company types and socioeconomic conditions within which they operate control the anticipated outcome of implementing CSR projects, specifically if those projects are designed to reduce companies’ carbon emissions.

11 a.m.–noon: Opportunities for the Stuart School in Entrepreneurship
• Coleman Foundation Clinical Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship Nik Rokop

Join me for a short history of entrepreneurship at Stuart School of Business. I’ll provide some examples of former students who have had successful careers in the startup world. I will give a short overview of the Chicago entrepreneurial ecosystem, what is happening at the Ed Kaplan Family Institute for Innovation and Tech Entrepreneurship, and an overview of the Master of Technological Entrepreneurship program. We will discuss the role of entrepreneurship in accessing grants and explore opportunities for research in related fields. Finally, I’ll provide some resources you can use and share with your students.
