Student Employment Announcements for Student Supervisors

The Student Employment Office would like to share the following announcements and reminders for spring and summer 2017:

Reminders and Answers to FAQs:

  1. Summer PAs: Students continuing employment for the summer will need a new PA entered. All student payroll/personnel authorizations will expire at the end of the fiscal year on Wednesday, May 31. You can begin entering Electronic Payroll Authorization Forms (EPAFs) on Monday, May 22 for students who will be working for the summer 2017 term. The summer term dates are Thursday, June 1 through Thursday, August 31. These dates will automatically populate in the Student EPAF.
  2. Performance Evaluations: Start thinking and planning now for performance evaluations with your student employees. Providing constructive feedback to students is an essential part of being a supervisor and contributing to their growth as young professionals. Performance evaluations are due at the end of the semester. Supervisors with more than five students can choose to do group evaluations.
  3. Summer Hours/Eligibility: Students can begin working up to 40 hours per week Monday, May 15. Students must be enrolled in the university but do not necessarily need to be taking summer courses in order to work on-campus.
  4. Minimum Wage Changes: The minimum wage will change from $10.50 to $11 per hour on Saturday, July 1. Student wages will be automatically increase from $10.50 to $11 on this date. If you are entering a PA for the summer, please enter $11. Departments are responsible for updating and tracking their budgets according to these changes.
  5. Graduating Students: The last day graduating students can work as student employees is Friday, May 12. After that date, they would need to be hired as temporary employees (through HR) if you wish to retain them for the summer. Students enrolled in the fall semester are still considered students and will continue to be processed through the Student Employment Office. Termination PAs need to be submitted for all graduating students.

As always, we welcome your feedback and questions and appreciate your efforts as supervisors and mentors to our students. You can find resources for supervisors like interview question templates, an on-boarding checklist, a warning notice form, and much more on our website under Forms & Documents.
