TEDxIIT Now Accepting Speaker Nominations

TEDxIIT is calling for speakers. Everyone from Illinois Tech is eligible to nominate, including students, staff, faculty, and alumni. The nomination deadline is Sunday, January 24, 2016.

The event is open to a live audience* and will be steamed online. The sixth annual event will take place in early April 2016.

UnexpecTED is the theme for the 6th annual TEDxIIT in 2016.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design, started by a non-profit organization which is known for “ideas worth spreading.” Speakers from different fields, be it art, technology, or literature, share their ideas. TEDxIIT is a student organization and is open to everyone associated with Illinois Tech. It carries a vision: to inspire the greater community by spreading positive ideas and action to impact the global humanity.

What sets TEDxIIT apart from other TED events at universities is that the planning team works under the guidance of faculty advisors such as Vice Provost of Student Access, Success, and Diversity Initiatives, Gerald Doyle, IIT Stuart School of Business Industry Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship Nik Rokop and Ricky Cooper, assistant professor of finance, Stuart School of Business. In addition, there are dedicated alumni that serve as mentors/coaches and provide hands-on learning experience for the students to create a uniquely collaborative learning environment.

“The students experienced all aspects of business — finance, accounting, marketing, advertising, social media, public relations, HR, logistics, and fundraising — an essential piece of professional development . . . the planning meetings took on a boardroom-like atmosphere,” said JD Gershbein, 2015 faculty advisor. Gershbein published this observation in Huffington Post. Read it here.
