Undergraduate Taylor Schaub Awarded 2013 AIA Northeast Illinois Scholarship

IIT College of Architecture undergraduate Taylor Schaub, of Wood Dale, Illinois, was awarded an architectural scholarship by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Northeast Illinois Chapter on November 27, 2013. In conjunction with AIA’s national body, the local chapter annually awards the student scholarships, valued at $4,000, to four students pursuing architectural degrees.

Schaub expects to receive her bachelor’s degree in architecture, plus a minor in construction management, in 2017. Her career goal is to embrace all of the qualities learned in school to better the environment, including specifically being able to enhance living, work and leisure experiences by the inclusion of attentive processes and details. Working as an architect will permit Schaub to use practical elements to create a relevant experience for those living in the area.

Schaub’s favorite building is the Chicago Athletic Association Building on Michigan Avenue, a choice which speaks to her fondness for historical architecture.

“It isn’t a residence, or a skyscraper, or an out-of-the-ordinary structure, but it is a simple Chicago building with a beautiful facade that holds a lot of character,” Schaub said. “Although modern design and technology is fascinating, I don’t think it can compare to the craft and ornamentation of earlier times.”

Taylor is also a member of American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS).
