Virtual Reality, Spatial Sound, and New Ethnographic Techniques Workshop

Students, faculty, and staff are welcome to participate in a VR ethnomusicological experience on Friday, November 17 at 2 p.m. in Siegel Hal, Room 204. This workshop, guided by Ons Barnat, will allow participants to experience the first ethnomusicological data collected with a 360° audio-visual recording device on VR headsets. From a presentation of Barnat’s Mitacs postdoctoral research, the Music Legacy Project, participants can estimate the role of sound recording in the “restitution” in VR. This workshop will also address some of the methodological, ethical and epistemological issues raised by the use of such an experimental device.
