The Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions invites Illinois Tech faculty, staff, and students to volunteer at the Chicago High School Ethics Bowl Regional Competition which will take place virtually on February 12, 2022.

Volunteers will help judge or moderate. The event is co-hosted by the University of Chicago’s Winning Words program, St. Ignatius College Prep, and Illinois Tech’s Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions. We will have teams from Chicago area high schools – both public, charter, and private – competing, and it should be a day of lively discussion and debate!

Illinois Tech started the Ethics Bowl more than 25 years ago at the university level, and for the past five years has worked to bring this competition to Chicago area high school students. The teams will participate in three rounds of debate, and the top two teams will then face-off in a final round. This year, the event will be held on the University of Chicago’s campus in Hyde Park.

The Ethics Bowl competition challenges students to work as a group to analyze and discuss a series of ethics cases concerning world problems such as issues surrounding emerging technologies, the environment, disease prevention, crime, and issues related to the current economy and job creation.
