Who Gets Credit? Navigating Authorship in Scholarly Publishing Online

Who counts as an author — and who doesn’t? What happens when collaborators disagree on credit? This workshop cuts through the confusion.

Designed for faculty and graduate students across all disciplines, this session covers the essential frameworks governing authorship and contributorship in academic publishing — including ICMJE, CRediT, CSE, and COPE guidelines. You’ll learn how to assign credit fairly, document contributions transparently, and avoid common ethical pitfalls that can put your reputation (and your co-authors’) at risk.

Whether you’re writing your first paper or managing a multi-investigator research team, getting authorship right matters — for your career, your integrity, and your collaborators.

What you’ll take away:

– A clear understanding of leading authorship frameworks and when to apply them

– Practical strategies for documenting contributions from day one

– Confidence navigating authorship conversations on collaborative projects
