Illinois Tech’s Women In STEM Wikipedia Edit-a-thon was featured in a story in the Illinois Library Association’s October issue of Reporter. The event is hosted annually in March by the Paul V. Galvin Library in order to increase representation of women in STEM professions in Wikipedia, the most widely used online reference resource.
Last March, the event was co-hosted by the Illinois Tech chapter of the Society of Women Engineers. Participants improved a number of entries for women in STEM professions using archival and secondary materials. One entry improved at the last event pertained to Gloria Ray Karlmark, an Illinois Tech alumna who made history integrating Little Rock Central High School as a member of the Little Rock Nine.
