Carly Kocurek, Assistant Professor of Digital Humanities and Media Studies, and Marie Hicks, Assistant Professor of History will lead a discussion at 12:45 pm on March 12, 2014 in the McCormick Tribune Campus Center Ballroom.
Kocurek will talk about representation of women in games in a historical context, along with some contemporary efforts to address and change representation issues. Hicks will address “a look at gendered infrastructure in history and on campus.”
This discussion will include how physical infrastructure can affect gender norms or what is considered to be normal expressions of personhood beginning with a look at women’s historical underrepresentation in certain technical fields, and ending with a discussion of the paucity of physical spaces for women on campus.
