Women’s Soccer Defeats North Park

womens-soccerThe Illinois Tech Women’s Soccer team avenged a 2015 loss during an October 17 match against North Park University. Facing an opponent who handed them a 1-0 defeat last season, the Scarlet Hawks downed the Vikings 2-0.

How it Happened

  • Despite being outshot significantly in the first half, the Illinois Tech defense held strong and kept the score 0-0 at halftime. Jessica Park particularly stood out, as she made several saves to keep the Vikings off the scoreboard. 
  • Katherine Nishimoto put the Scarlet Hawks on the board in the second half, scoring on a free kick in the 65th minute.
  • Just under five minutes later, the Hawks would add insurance. Greta Zola tallied her first collegiate goal in the 70th minute on a rebound off the corner kick.
  • The Vikings offensive onslaught continued, but Park continued to hold strong. Her play in the second half steered the Hawks to a shutout victory.

Scarlet Hawk Standouts

  • Park put together one of the best matches of her career, as the sophomore saved 16 shots and recorded her sixth career shutout (fourth this season).
  • Nishimoto and Zola scored on their only shots of the match.
  • Katie Hoefgen led the Scarlet Hawks with three shots.
  • Venika Jarvis also tallied a shot on net.

  • The Scarlet Hawks snapped a three-match losing streak and moved to 5-10-1 with the victory.
  • North Park outshot the Hawks 28-6 overall and 16-4 on goal.
  • The Vikings tallied seven corners compared to just one for Illinois Tech.
  • There were 18 fouls called on the Vikings. Illinois Tech was whistled for 17.
