Women’s Soccer Plays Trine to 0-0 Draw

The Illinois Tech Women’s Soccer team used a strong defensive effort on September 3 to play Trine University to a draw. Neither team tallied a goal in a 0-0, double overtime contest.

How it Happened

  • The Scarlet Hawks were busy early, tallying three shots in the first 10 minutes of the contest. However, no team was able to attempt a shot on goal until the 21st minute, when Illinois Tech’s Jessica Park made the match’s first save.
  • Trine generated the chances late in the first half, but Illinois Tech was able to hold strong. The Scarlet Hawks defended a corner kick in the 32nd minute before forcing a shot wide and getting another save from Park in the half’s final five minutes.
  • Both teams were able to generate chances in the early and middle parts of the second half until Trine began to control possession. In the second half’s final 17 minutes, Trine generated six corner kicks. However, the Thunder only attempted one shot off of those corners, which went wide at the 89:11 mark.
  • The first overtime saw two more shots and two more corner kicks from Trine, which Illinois Tech was able to overcome.
  • Illinois Tech outshot Trine 3-1 in the second overtime, but shots from Kirsten Robinson and Anida Phetchanpheng went wide, and a Katherine Nishimoto shot was saved to keep the Hawks scoreless.

  • Park played all 110 minutes in net, making eight saves.
  • Robinson and Katie Hoefgen each led the team with four shots a piece. Robinson led with two shots on goal.
  • Nishimoto, Greta Zola, Marina Eraas, and Josie Flesvig made up the starting defensive unit that anchored Illinois Tech’s shutout.

  • Cassidy Small led the team with two shots on goal.
