Women’s Soccer Team Receives National Team Academic Award; More Scholar-Athletes Named

The Illinois Tech women’s soccer team has been honored with the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for posting a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. This is the second straight year that the women’s team has been honored with this award.

Four Scarlet Hawk women’s soccer players, Samantha Cosenza, Noel Deis, Diana Otero, and Emily Tilton, were named Scholar-Athletes by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Student-athletes are nominated by their institution’s head coach and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.

As reported in IIT Today last week, seven Scarlet Hawk women’s soccer players have been honored as members of the CCAC All-Academic Team. To be considered for the CCAC All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have a 3.25 grade point average or higher.
