Women’s Volleyball Drops a Pair on Saturday

The Illinois Institute of Technology women’s volleyball team faced a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schools in a tri-match on Saturday at Wisconsin Lutheran. The Scarlet Hawks lost to both Lakeland College and host WLC on the day.

Final Scores

  • Lakeland 3, Tech 0 (22-25, 18-25, 16-25)
  • Lutheran 3, Tech 1 (21-25, 25-19, 23-25, 13-25)

How it Happened – Lakeland

  • Lakeland built a nice lead in set one, going up 11-5 before some errors and an ace by Reya Green gave Tech four straight points to pull within two at 13-11. However the Muskies responded with a 5-0 run and help the lead the rest of the way.
  • In set two, it was Illinois Tech who started quickly. The Scarlet Hawks scored the match’s first three points, but a 5-0 run a bit later gave the Muskies the lead for good.
  • The third and final set was back and forth for most of the early going. No team led by more than one point until a 4-0 run put Lakeland up 13-9. Tech went on a 3-0 run late behind two aces fromAlyssa Miner, but it was too late to make up enough ground on the Muskies.

How it Happened – Wisconsin Lutheran

  • The Scarlet Hawks took a 5-1 lead early on and held the advantage until a 4-0 run put WLC up 12-11. A Taylor Burton kill and an attack error gave Tech the lead back, but another 4-0 run put the Warriors ahead for the rest of the match.
  • Set two belonged to the Scarlet Hawks. Tech never trailed in the set and led by as many as six (10-4 and the final set score of 25-19). The Scarlet Hawks held Lutheran to a .000 hitting percentage in the set.
  • In set three, the Scarlet Hawks picked up where the previous set left off, but an early lead disappeared after a mid-set run from the Warriors.
  • The fourth and final set was a strong one for Lutheran, as the Scarlet Hawks never led after a 2-1 early advantage.
