Xiaofan Li Appointed as Interim Dean of the College of Science

Based on the strong recommendation of the College of Science Dean Search Committee, Interim Provost Russell Betts has announced the appointment of Professor Xiaofan Li as interim dean of the college effective August 2018 until such time as a full search for the new dean can be concluded. Li is a professor of applied mathematics and also previously served as the vice dean of the college and as interim dean since January 2018. Li received his B.S. in applied mathematics from Zhejiang University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the University of California at Los Angeles. He joined Illinois Tech’s Department of Applied Mathematics in 1999 and served as the director of graduate studies for the department from 2005 to 2016. He was associate dean of graduate admission for the university from 2012 to 2015. His research interests include suspension of deformable particles, phase transformation in binary alloys, boundary integral methods, and numerical methods for nonlocal equations. He has published more than 50 journal papers and has received research support from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and NASA.
