Be the 1 in 5 Who’s Saving Money

Did you know that you can save money on your out-of-pocket medical expenses—and even receive cash rewards for doing so?

People don’t always realize that prices can be different for the same type of visit or test, depending on where you go. Imaging like an MRI, CT scan, or X-ray can be done at a hospital, stand-alone imaging center, or physician’s office. And where you go can have a big impact on the cost, even for the same procedure. “One place may cost $400 for an MRI, and another may cost $1,400,” said Steve Hamman, head of Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plan network solutions. The same is true for preventive services such as mammograms and colonoscopies.

So how do you know how much your test will cost? Simply call Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS). By calling the number on the back of your ID card, you’ll automatically be connected to the Benefit Value Advisor enhanced customer service. They can assist you with “shopping” for procedures at different locations near you, as well as assist with any pre-certification requirements, if applicable.

You’ll receive several options near you, all of which must adhere to BCBS’ quality standards. However, you may find that one provider will cost much less, and that you’ll receive a cash reward through the Member Rewards Program if you use a more cost effective option.
