Before Camras: Limitations of Audio Recording Before Magnetic Wire

On Wednesday, December 2 at 3:30 p.m. in Paul V. Galvin Library Ralph Pugh, university archivist and adjunct professor of history, will discuss sound recording before Marvin Camras’ groundbreaking work on the wire recorder at Illinois Tech in the late 1930s. Come hear a 1912 Edison cylinder phonograph and experience first hand the limitations and charms of the pre-magnetic era, featuring a speech by Teddy Roosevelt and a comedic song from 1908.
