IIT Applied Math Alumnus Jacob Matijevic Honored Posthumously for Work on Mars Rover Missions
October 24, 2012Jacob “Jake” Matijevic (Math ‘69), a great space engineer, died on August 20, 2012 in Los Angeles, Calif. Matijevic received his bachelor’s degree from IIT and later earned a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1973. In honor of Jacob’s contribution to the Mars rover missions, NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory named the rock found by the Curiosity rover, “Jake Matijevic.”
