IIT Professional Learning Programs is offering two courses for international students this summer, Integrated English Language Skills and ESL Pronunciation Workshop.
PL 496-Integrated English Language Skills

Monday and Wednesday, 1 – 4:10 pm
Cost $495
The integrated skills summer course focuses on listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. Students will enhance skills in these areas through communicative fluency activities which incorporate multiple language components, similar to “real life communication.” Fluency activities will comprise of 50% of the course. Students will improve grammar and vocabulary, develop conversation strategy skills, and learn techniques for effective reading and writing. The other 50% of the course will focus on key components of English pronunciation, including vowel and consonant sounds, word stress and rhythm, sounds in connected speech, and intonation. There is no textbook requirement for this course; materials will be provided. This course is non-credit and open to all IIT students, staff, and faculty. Participants may register for the pronunciation portion of the course only as outlined below in the ESL Pronunciation Workshop.
ESL Pronunciation Workshop

Wednesdays, 1 – 4:10 pm
Cost $395
The ESL Pronunciation Workshop will teach participants strategies to communicate more effectively with others in English. Participants will learn key components of English pronunciation, including vowel and consonant sounds, word stress and rhythm, sounds in connected speech, and intonation. Students will be responsible for practicing these strategies in and out of class. Instructor will assess students’ needs and focus on learner issues.
