Sean SwidlerThe Department of Food Science and Nutrition presents its fall 2023 seminar series featuring guest speaker Sean Swidler, founder of Swidler Law Group, who will give a presentation on “Legal Issues for Food and Beverage Start-Ups.” This seminar is open to the public and will take place on Zoom from 12:45–1:45 p.m. on Thursday, October 19.

Abstract

In this talk, we will focus on navigating the legal issues of starting a food and beverage business. We will touch on corporate formation to avoid personal liability to founders; selecting and protecting branding and product names; and local, state, and federal regulatory requirements to consider when starting and growing the business.

Bio

Sean Swidler has been practicing law for more than 20 years and founded Chicago-based, Swidler Law Group in 2019 to provide intellectual property, product regulatory, and corporate counselling to CPG companies. He collaborates with large companies with global reach and portfolios, mid-size companies whose growth rides on protecting their innovations, and solo inventors and start-ups launching businesses from new ideas.
