Help Plant New Trees on the Campus Arboretum This Fall

The Alphawood Arboretum will be hosting two tree planting events this upcoming fall. Students, staff, and faculty are all invited to participate in the events!

On Thursday, September 17, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Openlands will be joining us on campus to help plant over 30 new trees. These plantings will start near the tennis courts north of MTCC. Anyone interesting in attending should sign up with Openlands through this link.

October 9 at 9 a.m. will be our second event held in collaboration with Chicago Region Trees Initiative (CRTI). With their help, an additional 20 trees will be added to the arboretum collection, and additional shrubs!

These events will both qualify for Illinois Tech’s volunteer time benefit. Eligible staff and faculty interested in attending and using this benefit may email Erin Kelly with your name, email, and department so we can document the volunteer hours. More information about the volunteer time policy is available here: https://www.iit.edu/hr/policies-and-procedures/benefits/c9-volunteer-time-policy

Please make sure you wear weather-appropriate attire and are prepared to get a little dirty during the planting. We look forward to seeing you and planting more trees on campus!
