Rebecca Wingate (M.S. CE ’12) Awarded Fulbright Fellowship

The International Center is pleased to announce IIT’s second Fulbright recipient in its history.  Rebecca Wingate, a recent alumna who received her master’s degree from IIT College of Engineering Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering last December, will be going to Hepia in Switzerland in September for her project titled “Lean Construction and Railway Infrastructure Maintenance.” Wingate showed that with Switzerland’s railway network playing an important part in its economy, lean construction techniques may improve the productivity in rail maintenance and combat the rising costs. She plans to utilize the knowledge gained by publishing a paper upon returning to the United States and applying it in her current position at CN.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or English teaching assistantships. During their grants, Fulbrighters meet, work, live with and learn from the people of the host country, sharing daily experiences. The program facilitates cultural exchange through direct interaction on an individual basis in the classroom, field, home and in routine tasks, allowing the grantee to gain an appreciation of others’ viewpoints and beliefs, the way they do things and the way they think.

Congratulations to Rebecca Wingate! Thank you to IIT College of Engineering and its CAEE department for supporting her application.
