Bryan Tillman (MS ’12, MBA ’12)

IIT Stuart alumnus Bryan Tillman (MS ’12, MBA ’12), senior project manager for sustainability for Kymanox, was recently recognized for his contributions to advance the City of Highland Park’s sustainability plan, which received the national Climate Protection Award Small City Honorable Mention at the 2013 U.S. Conference of Mayors annual meeting.

The City of Highland Park, Ill., was one of only 12 communities to be recognized with an honorable mention out of more than 1,300 participants nationwide.

Tillman earned his dual M.B.A. and M.S. in Environmental Management and Sustainabilityfrom IIT Stuart School of Business in 2012. Previously a banking professional at PNC, he used his IIT Stuart graduate education to break into the sustainability industry.

At Kymanox, a diversified technical products and services company, Bryan serves as Highland Park’s sustainability director and has worked with the community to implement a sustainability plan that increases residential energy efficiency, promotes the widespread adaption of electric vehicles, and reduces landfill waste via composting.

Through his IIT Stuart coursework, Tillman gained experience and tools to develop and implement an award-winning sustainability strategy.

“During our environmental finance class, I worked with Dr. Ram Ramanan to build out a project screening tool to help define which projects will lead us to the best net results,” said Tillman. “Using this tool, I was able to quickly sort through approximately 40 potential projects and rank them, accounting for environmental impact, financial feasibility, and probability ratios. We pursued the top initiatives, and marketed them to the community using both sustainability and financial messages.”

He added, “Kymanox is very proud to have worked with Highland Park to make such a positive impact in the community and beyond.”
