More than 130 food industry leaders representing large international companies attended The Preventive Controls Summit 2013 at IIT on October 9, 2013. The inaugural food summit featured representatives from companies such as Kraft, ConAgra and PepsiCo. The Summit is a unique collaboration of food industry leaders who convened to address a vital part of food safety, namely validation and verification. This Summit was designed to establish a framework food companies to do business under the new Food Safety Modernization Regulations (FMSA).

The Summit is sponsored by Institute for Food Safety and Health at IIT and the National Food Lab. Its goal is to position the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois as a national leader in this new era of food safety.
