The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the finalization of the Preventive Controls for Human and Animal Foods Rules on September 10, 2015. These rules are the foundation to the food safety modernization act (FSMA) and will change the way many foods are regulated.
Illinois Institute of Technology’s Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH) will play a key role in the implementation of these rules by serving as the host institution for the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA). The FSPCA is a broad-based public private alliance consisting of key industry, academic and government stakeholders whose mission is to support safe food production by developing a nationwide core curriculum, training and outreach programs to assist companies producing human and animal food in complying with the preventive controls regulations that will be part of FSMA.
