LifeWorks May Feature: Mental Health

LifeWorks, Illinois Tech’s Employee Assistance Program, offers a new work-life balance highlight each month. This month’s feature centers around mental health. There are special resources around Mental Health and Children, a Mental Fitness Microsite, and a feature for managers on “Supporting Mental Health in the Workplace.”

It is essential to promote feelings of comfort and openness when talking about mental health to end the stigma before it begins. Encourage children and others in your family to reach out to a loved one, and suggest and help resources. If you are concerned that your child may be depressed, the article “Signs and Causes” will help you understand Childhood Depression. If you’re a manager, Mental Health Month is a time to reflect on your part in lifting the stigma of mental health in the workplace.

The Mental Fitness multimedia microsite features articles, infographics, and a video that explore how to care for and nurture your well-being by staying “fit” in four pillars of mental health: physical, emotional, social and financial. You will need Illinois Tech’s user ID and password, available on the HR Portal, to gain access.
