Faculty and staff at Illinois Tech will no longer be required to use a seven-digit code to make a domestic long-distance phone call. Approximately 16 years ago the policy had been put into place to curb the high cost of phone charges. Due to industry changes, Illinois Tech now has the opportunity to disable this function from all university office telephones. This change will offer the university community greater ease in making long-distance calls. Due to the fact that it is not feasible to limit other publicly accessible phones to the exclusive use of members of the Illinois Tech community, all lab phones, hallway phones, and other publicly accessible phones on campus will still be required to use a long-distance code.
