Minimum Wage Increase Takes Effect July 1

The minimum wage will increase from $8.25 per hour to $10.00 per hour on Wednesday, July 1, 2015. View details about Chicago’s Minimum Wage Ordinance here. Individual departments are responsible for factoring this change into their budgets for upcoming semesters. Student wages that are below $10 per hour prior to July 1, 2015, will be automatically changed in Banner and Payroll; no action is needed from supervisors/approvers. Note that this change went into effect across the university on June 21, 2015, the start of bi-weekly pay period number 14, for the check or deposit that will be issued on Friday, July 10, 2015.

Any student Payroll Authorization with an hourly rate below $10 per hour submitted to Student Employment will be rejected and a new payroll authorization will need to be entered reflecting the new pay rate. Find more information on the Student Employment website.

If you are a student supervisor and approver and did not receive a notification email with this information from Student Employment on June 23, 2015, contact Student Employment Specialist Kathryn Potts at seo1@iit.edu. Any questions regarding this change should also be directed to Potts.
