Office of Technology Services Cautions Against Email Phishing Attempts

Universities are continuously targeted for phishing attempts and spam, and as such we need to be extra careful. While Google’s spam filters remove many of these phishing emails, there are a few that slip through. The Office of Technology Services (OTS) reminds everyone not to respond to any emails asking for your username, and password or to “re-validate” your Illinois Institute of Technology email account.

Please mark them as Spam within Google’s web mail platform and report such messages to the OTS Support desk at supportdesk@iit.edu.

The easiest way to report spam to Google so that they can add the email address to their spam definition list is:

1. In Google Web-mail, you can select the message (Check mark on the left, or open the message)
2. Click the Mark As Spam icon (looks like stop sign with an Exclamation mark at the center).
